The Buea Regional Hospital is an Intermediate Level, category 3 Health Facility that serves as one of the main referral hospitals in the South West Region of Cameroon. It`s main missions are the implementation of the Health Sector Strategy of the Ministry of Public Health at its level, and in this line it carries out Case Management of both communicable and noncommunicable diseases, disease prevention activities, and health promotion activities. Some of these activities include; curative care according to standards of the main maternal, neonatal, child and adolescents health problems, the curative care of chronic noncommunicable diseases and communicable diseases as HIV/ AIDS at the health facility level, health promotion activities such as community actions for health promotion during outreach activities in the local communities, health education and information for disease prevention during various sensitization programs in the hospital, in public places and over the media. The hospital has varied human and material resources that enables it to carry out these missions. Human resources for health include an almost complete set of medical specialists such as; Specialists in Internal Medicine, two Nephrologists, a Cardiologists, a Neurologists, a Chest Physician (Pneumologist); a Professor in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine; Specialist Surgeons as Orthopedic Surgeon, Visceral Surgeon, an Otho-rhino-laryngologist (ENT) Surgeon and a General Surgeon; Four Gynecologist-Obstetricians, 2 Pediatricians with one specialized in New Born Care (Neonatology), Public Health Physicians in Charge of some Specialized programs as the HIV/AIDS programs, and a Clinical Biologist in Charge of the Laboratory.
